me: *stays up all night overhauling the rules post, profile and tags of a community that, so far, I am the second person to ever post to and the only person who has posted to it in the last two years*
me: if you build it, they will come...

But anyway, yeah, come join
cobra_kai_snake_pit! I've been posting pretty frequently so far this year. Some fic, quite a few icons and graphics, a few haiku. A goodly proportion of what I have posted there is currently only available on Dreamwidth, so get it while it's hot! Also: please feel free to post stuff yourself! Fanworks, discussions, you name it! If it's relevant to The Karate Kid and/or Cobra Kai, then it's got a home at
cobra_kai_snake_pit. As pits full of snakes go, it's terribly cozy.
[Edit: Probably over-egged it by promoting the comm on three separate promo communites. But, eh, maybe I'll get a few bites and at worst people will be mildly annoyed and scroll past my three near identical posts on their reading page.]
[Edit 2, Son of Edit: I hope it is not monumentally gauche to invite people to join communities because you searched for users with relevant interests listed on their profile and they were the ones who had updated within the recent past, because I certainly have done that. If I have committed an unforgivable breach of DW etiquette, then, on the off-chance they are reading this, I apologize unreservedly to any of the people I bothered. I am now going to step away from the computer and tape my hands into oven mitts lest I get any more bright ideas.]
[Edit 3, Edit's Revenge: So, if not a runaway, then at least a moderate success so far! The comm has two new members since this morning, one of whom was someone I sent an invitation to and the other presumably saw one or more of the promo posts.]

Date: 2023-03-06 12:21 pm (UTC)Good job and hoping people will come :D I think promoting in multiple promo communities is common and normal. That's how and most people I've seen promote comms and events do it.
I am really curious about your second edit, though! Because it tends to be quiet around here, I feel like I wouldn't mind the awareness even if I didn't plan on joining the comm, but at the same time if everybody did it, it would get really annoying... but again, quiet platform, so we're not at that stage! I had moderate success when searching by interest and reading through people's journals then commenting on BNHA entries posted within the last few months. If the conversation flowed decently, I mentioned the comm and one or two people joined that way. Many people who list interests don't actually write about them though (myself included!) so it's not necessarily a good strategy. Keep us posted on how it all works out (and whether we should be careful never to repeat a faux-pas :D)
Wishing you well with the comm!!

Date: 2023-03-06 12:36 pm (UTC)And, yeah, if community invitations were something that you had to fend off from every direction that would be extremely annoying, but my hope is that Dreamwidth is quiet enough that it will be surprising but not unwelcome for these people to be invited by some randomer to a fandom community for one of their listed interests.
I'll let you know how successfully or disasterously my invitation campaign goes anyway! My feeling is that most people who have listed Cobra Kai as an interest are probably only passingly interested in the show and wouldn't necessarily want to create fanworks or start discussion posts themselves, but maybe at least some of them would be interested enough to subscribe to a semi-active community and comment occasionally on other people's posts? I got my first comment ever on a post there recently and it was really exciting! Felt a lot less like screaming into the void. I'm trying to post there semi-regularly so that at the very least it shows up as a recently active community if people do go looking for KK/CK comms. I'm also posting more Dreamwidth-specific things like icons rather than just cross-posting stuff from AO3, which hopefully is a potential draw.
Edit: Btw, do you have any recommendations of places to promote comms (rather than events) besides

Looking at my post on promoting a comm, you've got most of the ones I know about covered!
