Here's my table for the
100fandoms challenge. 23/100 squares complete as of September 16, 2023.
Fills: 001–010
- universe: The Glory of the Fuck (Blazing Saddles, rated M, Sheriff Bart/Jim "the Waco Kid")
how it fits the prompt: The basic conceit of this fic is the characters realising that they are no longer in the universe of canon, but a fanwork instead, where things that can't happen in the movie are now possible. - edge:
- cleave:
- distance:
- away:
- home: Simple Comforts (Star Trek: Discovery, rated E, Keyla Detmer/Joann Owosekun)
how it fits the prompt: This fic is about the ways growing up in a Luddite colony have stayed with Owo and the ways that where "home" is can be different at different times in your life. - key:
- star:
- dust:
- shadows:
Fills: 011–020
- old: Diplomatea (Imperial Radch, rated T, Breq/Seivarden)
how it fits the prompt: This fic is about a tea flask belonging to Seivarden (a character who was frozen in stasis for a thousand years) turning up in a museum in the Radch, which Breq then works for years to have repatriated to her. - new: Radio Killed the Semaphore Star (Discworld, rated T, ensemble cast)
how it fits the prompt: This is a story about the invention of a new technology (radio) on the Disc. - borrowed: I Now Pronounce You Royally Fucked (The Tick (2017), rated T, Dot/Overkill)
how it fits the prompt: This is an undercover-as-a-couple fic where the POV character is acutely pining after his "borrowed" wife (before they get together at the end, obviously, because I'm not a monster) - blue:
- promise:
- dishonour:
- wreck:
- fix: close knit strands of an unbroken thread (Good Omens (TV), rated T (will probably go up in the last chapter though), Aziraphale/Crowley and Beelzebub/Gabriel)
how it fits the prompt: This is a post-season 2 fix-it fic of the "you have to really smash it to bits before you can fix it" variety. - crack:
- discover:
Fills: 021–030
- fiddle: Sunrise, Sunset (Star Trek: TNG, rated G, Worf & Alexander Rozhenko)
how it fits the prompt: The title is obviously a reference to Fiddler on the Roof, but there is also a bit in the fic about Worf translating Fiddler when he was in high school to try and convince his music teacher to stage a Klingon language production, and, more abstractly, the story is about the ways that Worf feels both connected to and alienated from his son by their respective connections to Klingon music and culture. - fire:
- water: Sublimation (The Magicians (TV), rated T, Quentin/Eliot)
how it fits the prompt: Eliot makes observations about the fluidity of sexuality and describes his own as "vapour just beginning to condense" and Quentin's as "ice just beginning to sweat" and that "you couldn't take a bath in either" as a rationalisation for turning Quentin down when he asks to be in a relationship with him. The title "Sublimation" is a play on that as it can refer to something being converted from a solid to gas without becoming liquid, or to the sublimation of emotions, as Eliot is sublimating his romantic feelings for Quentin into platonic friendship. - waves:
- salt:
- balm:
- fear: Must Not Lose to Fear (Cobra Kai, rated E, Daniel LaRusso/Johnny Lawrence)
how it fits the prompt: This is about Johnny being afraid to explore relationships with men out of a fear that he won't be able to perform sexually with them due to his inexperience, which becomes reinforcing as he thinks that the older he gets the less understandable being bad at sex to becomes. - wear:
- mask: Silly Love Songs (The Witcher (TV), rated G, Geralt/Jaskier)
how it fits the prompt: The framing for this fic is that Jaskier has been writing love songs about being in love with Geralt, which he performs in public and in front of Geralt, while attempting to maintain that he is just writing From The Perspective Of a person in love with Geralt and that it doesn't mean anything about his own feelings at all. truth:
Fills: 031–040
- courage:
- hope: The Care of Orchids After Blooming (Cagney and Lacey, rated T, Ginger Cohen/Victor Isbecki)
how it fits the prompt: This is a short fic that follows Ginger's perspective in the episode where she has been told by her doctor that she needs to have a hysterectomy. It's about her grief about not having children with Victor and then ends somewhat unresolved with the bittersweetness of hope that maybe she will when she sees Lacey's doctor and gets a second opinion. - raised:
- fall:
- spring:
- birth: Kissing Cousins (Succession; rated E; Greg/Shiv, Shiv/Tom, Tom/Greg, Greg/Shiv/Tom)
how it fits the prompt: This one is pretty straightforward: Shiv gives birth in this fic. - morning:
- welcome:
- belong: Kodiak Island Drifting (A League of Their Own (TV); rated G, a lot of relationships, but mainly Max Chapman & Esti González)
how it fits the prompt: This is a fusion fic with the ALoTO characters in the Pacific Rim universe. As in canon, Max and Esti struggle to belong, although the context now is that they are training to be Rangers as opposed to playing professional baseball, or aspiring to. - share:
Fills: 041–050
- count:
- mean:
- teasing: Quiet as a Mouse (My Mother Can Hear Like a Bat) (Star Trek: DS9, rated M, Quark/Odo)
how it fits the prompt: Odo teases Quark (in both senses of the word) in this fic as they try to have sex very quietly during a visit to Quark's family home. - fantasy:
- game:
- work:
- bed: My Husband's Wife (Leverage, rated T, Maggie Collins/Sophie Devereaux)
how it fits the prompt: Maggie and Sophie have to go undercover as a couple and when they share a hotel room There Is Only One Bed. - turn: the greatest gift our parents ever gave us was each other (Father of the Bride (Movies), rated G, Banks (and Banks-MacKenzie) family feels mostly focused on Matty's relationships with his sisters and his nephew)
how it fits the prompt: The genesis of this fic was from thinking about how Matty went from being the baby brother to the de facto eldest sibling very quickly, when Megan was born and his older sister, who was now married with her own kid, moved away to Boston soon after. So, in that sense, it's his "turn" to be the one looking after his younger sibling. - swing:

Fills: 051–060

- rain:
- bottle: L'chaim to Prohibition (Yentl (1983), rated T, Avigdor/Yentl Mendel | Anshel Mendel/Hadass Vishkower)
how it fits the prompt: This is a post-canon fic set in 1920s New York City during Prohibition. Anshel | Yentel (both names and both he/him and she/her pronouns are used in the fic and the character presents as both a woman and a man at different point in it—it's left up to the reader's interpretation whether they are a cisgender woman posing as a man for pragmatic reasons, a genderfluid person, a bigender person, a transmasculine person, etc.) is a bootlegger and meets Avigdor and Hadass' son Mendel by chance when they both think they're supposed to sell some bottles of wine to the same guy, hearing that he asked to see "Mendel."

Fills: 081–090
- history:
- time: Acts of Service (Quantum Leap (2022), rated G, ensemble cast)
how it first the prompt: Cheeky answer: the show is about time travel. Serious answer ... the show is about time travel? But also, it takes place over different periods of time in the characters' lives and is abou their respective relationships to time travel and the Quantum Leap project. - mirror:
- drawing: do I dare to eat a peach (Our Flag Means Death, rated E, Jim Jimenez/Lucius Spriggs)
how it fits the prompt: The inciting incident in this fic is Jim asking Lucius to draw them nude. - trailed:

Fills: 091–100
- right:
- sanction:

how it fits the prompt: This is a soulmate AU where humans are born with with the name of their soul mate on their skin. B'Elanna, who is half-Klingon, does not have a mark and believes that she can never be with Tom (whose soulmate is Harry) and, after she confesses her feelings when she thinks they are about to die (and then don't die), is slowly convinced that maybe she can and that relationships don't have to fit certain conventional human to be worthwhile and important. - collection:
- crowd: Three's a Crowd (Crowd Me, Baby) (Karate Kid (Movies), rated E, Daniel LaRusso/Johnny Lawrence/Ali Mills)
how it fits the prompt: The title is a play on the expression "three's a crowd" and is about Daniel having sex with Ali and Johnny after prom. So uh. Yeah. - oversight: Back From Marbella (Ted Lasso, rated M, Keeley Jones/Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt with a focus on Roy/Jamie)
how it fits the prompt: This fic starts with Keeley, Roy and Jamie having an unplanned threesome off the cuff without talking about it, and the implications of their relationships with each other going forward, first, which Roy almost immediately thinks was a bad move on their part and wishes they had talked about it so that he knew with greater certainty if he had had a one-night-stand with Jamie or if he was his boyfriend. - graduate:

Update (16/09/23): 23/100
I got guilty about never updating this table, so I went back through my AO3 from the date I posted it to today and filled in as many squares as I could with one fic from all the fandoms I have written stuff for since then. I haven't included anything from before I signed up to
100fandoms on January 21, 2019, even though that is allowed in their rules, because I felt that I wanted to challenge myself to write for 100 fandoms from that point rather than retroactively picking up gimmes for stuff I'd already done in the past.I have allowed myself to count different Star Trek shows as different fandoms, because I think that's pretty standard, and I have (for now) counted a Karate Kid fic and a Cobra Kai fic as separate fandoms, which I may or may not leave depending on how I feel further down the line. I picked a Karate Kid fic that was only Karate Kid and had no references at all to Cobra Kai canon, but since it's the same characters it is still arguably a little borderline.
But anyway, that's where I'm at nearly five years on. I've definitely written for more fandoms than I thought I had, even without making an active effort to, although if I kept on at this rate it would take me another 15—20 years to finish the whole table. I think I am going to make more of an effort to keep dipping into various fandoms for one-fic-stands, either through exchange fics or just Because and keep chipping away at this more deliberately. Not just because I want to finish the table though, but because I also just like writing stuff for Yuletide-sized fandoms, and I feel like it's often my best work even if it doesn't get a lot of attention, so I might as well just write all the ideas I've had for various things that I haven't gotten around to because "no one will read them." More and more I don't really care if what I'm doing isn't of interest to anyone else as long as I think it's good. It's nice when people take an interest, but it's not a prerequisite. I also like just dipping into mid-size and larger fandoms briefly if I have an idea, without necessarily creating more prolifically in them or over a long period of time. I think that I had this idea for a while that I was "disappointing" people if I wrote one thing for their fandom/ship/whatever and then never did it again, but also like? I can do whatever I want and random strangers aren't even entitled to one thing they really like from me, so if anyone's disappointed then Oh Well.
I also added some more information about my fills at the end of the post and played around with the formatting of the table a little to keep the cell dimensions fixed and, finally, added some background colours to filled squares and number squares from the Aquatic Emergency colour palette on colourlovers.com for fun, because why not?
