Weird question, but do any of you know of any music practice accountability Discord servers? Or other kinds of accountability servers that you could use to encourage you to practice your instrument? Or if there's a Dreamwidth community along those lines that would also be great. I've found a couple of things by Googling, but from what I can tell they don't seem to be active currently.

I currently have a practice spreadsheet that is shared with my teacher and I still have a hard time getting around to putting the time in.

Alternately, would anyone be interested in a music specific accountability Dreamwidth comm and/or Discord server?

I had my cello lesson again today and my teacher found the notes I had made on my practice log really useful. She also looked at a bassline I had written for Body and Soul, which I am learning in my singing class, with the aim to be able to accompany myself and she's transposing it into A minor for me. There were too many stretches in the original key for my to play at this stage in my studies. She's really so generous with her time and so invested in her students. I feel very lucky to be learning from her.

In other news, in the spirit of Community Thursday (i.e. participate in a community by posting or commenting every Thursday), which was proposed by [personal profile] goodbyebird as a challenge, I commented over on [community profile] journalsandplanners for day 3 of their snowflake inspired challenge and checked in over at [community profile] get_knitted. My sock is coming along. I am past the gusset decreases now and on to the straight part of the foot.

In other-other (related) news, I will know tomorrow if I will get another interview for the position at the yarn shop. I'm pretty nervous to be honest. I do think I'm an ideal candidate for the job, but I worry that maybe they won't think I'm a good fit interpersonally or something. But anyway! At least I applied. Nothing ventured and all that.

I had my cello lesson today and my teacher was very enthusiastic about my Google Sheets practice log. She asked me to add her to it so that she could see what kind of things I've been focusing on before my lessons and have some time in advance to think about what we can do in the lesson itself. She can also add things in my notes colums for me to be aware of and work on as they come up during the lesson.

I had originally planned on asking her if she wanted me to add her, because I thought the accountibility would be good, but I didn't because I didn't want her to feel obliged, so it's great that she does want to have access to it.

I haven't practiced as much this week as I would have liked, but I did log three days of cello with an average of about 30 minute a session, so it wasn't nothing and it's useful to have my notes to look back on from those days. And now that I have a baseline I can work on upping things a bit. Next week I would love to have five more days on my spreadsheet.

I have been pretty sloppy when it comes to practice, both with cello and voice, so I've made myself a spreadsheet to log practice time in various categories (cello warm ups, cello sight reading, cello piece, vocal warm ups, singing piece, sight singing, improvisation, ear training, music reading trainer) to try and have a better idea of what I am doing and what I could be spending more time on. I've switched to weekly lessons in cello recently, as opposed to fortnightly, so hopefully that and the practice log will encourage me to keep up with my practice more often than I have been.

As part of my new year's resolutions I wanted to practice 30 minutes cello five days a week and 30 minutes singing five times a week and do vocal warm ups every day. I also want to add a bit of ear training and theory onto my daily routine. Nothing too extreme, just five minutes of each maybe. I think this is achievable, but I need to actually do it.

I lightly plagiarised a guitar player from Reddit's practice log to make mine, because although I love spreadsheets I am not particularly adept at coming up with formulae, and it's made me want to do a course in Excel to level up my spreadsheet game, lol.
