Yeah, I often see the same community or event promoted back to back in multiple comms, so I think that at least is fairly standard practice.

And, yeah, if community invitations were something that you had to fend off from every direction that would be extremely annoying, but my hope is that Dreamwidth is quiet enough that it will be surprising but not unwelcome for these people to be invited by some randomer to a fandom community for one of their listed interests.

I'll let you know how successfully or disasterously my invitation campaign goes anyway! My feeling is that most people who have listed Cobra Kai as an interest are probably only passingly interested in the show and wouldn't necessarily want to create fanworks or start discussion posts themselves, but maybe at least some of them would be interested enough to subscribe to a semi-active community and comment occasionally on other people's posts? I got my first comment ever on a post there recently and it was really exciting! Felt a lot less like screaming into the void. I'm trying to post there semi-regularly so that at the very least it shows up as a recently active community if people do go looking for KK/CK comms. I'm also posting more Dreamwidth-specific things like icons rather than just cross-posting stuff from AO3, which hopefully is a potential draw.

Edit: Btw, do you have any recommendations of places to promote comms (rather than events) besides [community profile] fandom_on_dw, [site community profile] dw_community_promo and [community profile] pimpmethis?
