Writing Update

I have done a bit of an archaelogical dig through my AO3 account and Google Drive to determine what days I wrote during February, so I could finally update my GYWO tracking spreadsheet for this month, before I had to do it in a desperate scramble at the end of the month when the check-in form went live.

Currently, I am on track for my annual goal and very slightly behind on my monthly goal. So I could either rest on my laurels until March, or shoot for another 6 writing days for the rest of Feb. I'll probably go for the latter, so I have a bit of a buffer built in for times when writing is just not happening.

Yay! [confetti for you] I was doing daily tracking of my writing for a while there, then my body got angry and I stopped doing it and never picked it back up. Seeing everyone here on DW do end-of-year roundups of their writing is kind of making me want to revive it, though...

Yeah, I have definitely had similar experiences! I still need to set up my bullet journal for February, for instance. It's such a useful tool for me, but I can have a very hard time getting it set up every month.

The closest I ever got to a bullet journal was making themed calendars for myself, but they were helpful calendars. I've always wanted to do a bullet journal but I'm too much of a perfectionist for it, I think -- nothing is ever just right.

I try to keep mine as simple as possible for that very reason, just one pen and maybe a pencil if I need to sketch in a habit tracker, no fancy layouts that I need a ruler for and the same basic format for layouts every week and every month. I put some stickers in there for a decorative element and to make it a bit more fun, but I know that if I fell down the Instagram/YouTube/Pinterest rabbit hole of ~aesthetique bullet journals then I would never be able to keep up with it as a functional tool. Which, like, no hate to people who enjoy that style of journalling, it's just not something I could keep up with and I need a planner to stay organised. I got a free planner from work today, though, from a yarn manufacturer (it has some knitting and crochet patterns in it too), so maybe I'll use that for a bit while I am finding it hard to maintain a bullet journalling habit.

Totally the best price! And they were just going to be thrown out otherwise (we're not going to buy from that manufacturer again), so it saves something that could be useful from going to landfill.

I actually had a mini bad dream the other day in which I hadn't checked in for February (woke up and went, February isn't even half over, dolt, and went back to sleep). But still, this is a good reminder for me to get my tallies current too.

This sounds exactly like the kind of bad dreams I have. I also have ones where I have mildly hurt someone's feelings through a misunderstanding, which is a similar sort of low stakes (but feels extrememly high stakes too me) existential horror.
