Yeah, it could well be! And I think that the discussions about parasocial relationships with celebrities (both A-list all the way down to Z-list, or whatever letter random youtubers with midsized channels are) has made some people overcorrect into thinking that it is Always Wrong to try to develop an actual relationship with someone online whose work you like, even in a fandom context. Which, I guess, kind of doesn't explain the rude comments though, unless they think that they are harmless and someone will know they are not directed at them personally?
